"Nature related learning" programs consists of educational lessons combined with nature trips. students can practise and learn more about chosen subject by doing themselves in nature.

There are different programs from 3 hours up to whole day programs.

Seasons in Finland

  • Theory lesson: Seasons in Finland

  • Nature trip: Typical nature activities for the season.

  • Theory lesson: lake as an environment all year round

  • Nature trip: we explore lake and water circulation in nature

  •  Season: all year round.

  • NOTE! This program is also possible to have as a whole day program. Then we will visit Enonsaari island in lake Vesijärvi.

Bogs in Finland

  • Theory lesson: Bogs in Finland

  • Nature trip: walking trip to a bog, where students try to find most common plants for this bog type

  • Season: all year round. Walking in winter with snow shoes.

Forests in Finland

  • Theory lesson: most common forest types in Finland

  • Nature trip: walking trip to a forest, where students try to find most common plants for this forest type

  • Season: all year round. Walking in winter with snow shoes.

Ice age and how it has shaped Finnish landscape

  • Theory lesson:Ice age

  • Nature trip: marks of Ice age I nature

  • Season: all year round.

  • NOTE! This program is also possible to have as a whole day program. Then we will visit Salpauselkä ridge and some of the most well known landscape marks in Lahti region.

Syysretket

Making a bird house

Students will make a birdhouse, which is then taken to the forest. This activity combines handicrafts and nature learning.

Kayaking

Students will get a short introduction to kayaking with this activity. Kayaking is an excellent way of getting close to lake environment. This activity is for small groups only!

Snow show walking

We have a 2-3 hours snow shoe trip to the forest or lake ice. During the walk students are learning about nature and environments. We will make fire on our way.

Nordic walking

We have a 2-3 hours nordic walking trip to the forest. During the walk students are learning about nature and environments. We will visit some nature sight seeing places on our way.

Hiking trip

We have a 2-3 hours hike to forest. During the hike students are learning about nature and environments. We will visit some nature sight seeing places on our way.

Get a fish!

 Students will learn to know some common fish in Finland and try to get some fish with angels in summer or with ice fishing in winter

Season: all year round.

NOTE! This program is also possible to have as a whole day program. Then we will also visit fishing museum in Vääksy.

Animals in Finnish nature

​Students will learn to know common forest animal in Finnish nature and explore forest and try to find some marks of the animals living there. Season: all year round. Best season to find marks of the animals November- April.

Birds in Finland

Students will learn to know some common birds in forest and lake environments. Season: all year round. Best seasons May-June and September.

NOTE! This program is also possible to have as a whole day program. Then we will also visit Heinola bird garden, where insured birds are getting cured and released back to nature.

Mushrooms

Students will learn to know some eatable mushrooms ( seasonal) and have a taste of them too.

Season: July -October

Wildfood in the forest

Students will learn to know some eatable plants and berries ( seasonal) and have a taste of them too.

Season: May-September

wilderness

Wilderness escape

Guide will teach students the most important surviving skills, that are needed in wilderness. We have a lunch in nature and after lunch there is a wilderness surviving game!

Season: all year round.

Finnish forest industry in the past and today

Students will learn about Finnish forest industry in the past and today.We have a short hiking to the forest and will notice in practise, how forests are taken care of.

Season: all year round.

NOTE! This program is also possible to have as a whole day program. Then we will also visit Evo centre, where forest professionals are educated. Evo hiking area gives also possibility to make a longer hike to wilderness. It is even possible to overnight there.

Everyman’s right

Students will learn about every man's right and during a short hike to the nature learn them in practise.

Season: all year round.

Wilderness gear

Students will learn about most important wilderness gear. and how to use them in the nature.

Season: all year round.

How to find you way in wilderness

Students will learn to read a map and use a compass. Then they will practise how to find a way in the forest.​Season: all year round.
